Redefining the Role of Government as it Affects the Lives of People with Disabilities
Issues
July 15, 2009 Article Rating

Started in January 2007, Health Care Voices Project is a statewide disability health awareness, education, and advocacy movement across the state. The Project is supported by the Strengthing the Voices of Acces Grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation.  The 2007 DPC workplan and the 2008 DPC workplan can be viewed here.

The Health Care Voices Project is an effort to assess the current health care needs of people with disabilities in the state  We are holding forums with groups and individuals across the state to find out personally what is most important to them when they consider their health or the health of a loved one with a disability.  Materials will be provided regularly to educate people on the state of health care now and its future. Also, we are continuing to assist people in advocating for themselves, through trainings and organizing opportunities.

The ultimate goal of the Health Care Voices Project is to represent disability issues in health care planning, financing and service delivery in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with the Commonwealth Connector Board, before legislative committees and public hearings before administrative agencies, and in forums sponsored by private organizations and associations.

Do you know of any groups or even individuals that may like to participate in one of these forums, one-on-one discussions, or advocacy efforts around health care in Massachusetts? If so, please contact Dennis Heaphy at dheaphy (@) dpcma.org or 617-499-6957.
