The Olmstead Initiatives

Friday October 23, 2009

I:00 -  4:00 PM

Holyoke Community College Kittredge Center

The first Olmstead Initiatives forum will be this Friday at Holyoke. We know it is hard to focus on issues of systems change and new goals & objectives for long term supports in the face of the stark 9c cuts that are impending. We have had a number of conversations with people and have evolved a perspective worth sharing and thinking about as we go forward.

The balance of FY10 and prospects for FY11 indicate that the social services system we have all worked for will be at its lowest ebb since the move to community-based care began. Yet, for all the benefits derived from EOHHS spending, we can all point to discrepancies and indeed, even inequities in the system that leaves many people with limited or no services. So the evolving question to ponder is this: When the Commonwealth's economy improves and revenues increases, do we want to rebuild the system as it is today?
