John Winske Memorial Awards
The John Winske Memorial Awards event is DPC’s annual community gathering, where we honor three individuals or groups who have gone above and beyond in service to the disability community - from grassroots activists, to systemic change catalysts, to legislative leaders.

Who was John Winske?
John was a disability rights champion, advocate for the independent living movement, and former Executive Director of DPC. His legacy includes bringing an ADA coordinator to the State House, instituting curb ramps on street corners throughout Boston, and the creation of a pioneering One Care system built for the needs of people with disabilities.
He was a beloved mentor and led by example, demonstrating the values of independence, compassion, and tenacity. Recipients of DPC’s John Winske Awards carry on John’s legacy through their work for liberation for the disability community.
